EBay versus Google and Microsoft: The Competitive Battle for e- Commerce Supremacy

1)      Do you agree with Google and Microsoft that EBay is now vulnerable to their assaults via Google Base and Windows live expo? Why or why not?

E- Bay has been in the industry for more than 10 years and has been performing distinctly very well. With more than 40% growth rate when e-Bay was flourishing its obvious that two other relevant industry leaders thought about entering the same playground and share the business. E-Bay has very distinct way of doing things and it is very good at doing what it does. Since Microsoft and Google both have entered its business e-Bay has managed to make it strong enough to face the challenge and acquisition of Skype could be the answer to its opponents that it’s not going to stay quiet. Being a good and well managed organization it’s obvious for eBay to come up

with alternatives. I think rather than being vulnerable e-Bay is being smart enough to prevent its territory.

2)      What are the major advantages and limitations of Google Base and Windows Live Expo? Which do you prefer or would you use both? Why? Go to their internet websites and read reviews at other sites to help your answer.

·         Not so very experienced in the field.

·         Smart competitor ahead.

·         So many other things to consider about.

Most of the times I go for Google because it’s much easier to use and search results are easy to access. Also Google search engines are simple and elaborated. They are quick, clear and accurate.

3)      Are eBay’s development of kijiji acquisition of Skype alliance with yahoo, and other acquisitions as noted in the case enough to ward off the competitive assaults of Google and Microsoft? Defend your position.

With time challenges keeps on coming. There is no end to a challenge and in the competitive market when the competitors are industry leaders in their field, we can never say that now this is enough to ward off the competition risks. Google and Microsoft indeed are big organizations. They didn’t enter the market just for the sake of entering they as well have definite set of strategies about how to make the impact. eBay’s step in order to defend the assault from its competitors is worth appreciable, because with this acquisition its been much stronger than it was before but still there are lots of things still to be considered in order to remain the same as it is now or grow in the future.

EBay certainly is following the right path, but it also needs to prepare itself to face lot more challenge and it should be ready enough to come up with brilliant ideas to defend its position against very strong competitors.
