1)      The internet is a driving force behind developments in telecommunications, networks, and other information technologies. Do you agree or disagree? Why?

This generation is called internet generation because internet has got lots of influence over our lifestyle. Everything we do, internet has got lot to do with it. We communicate study, work and learn through internet so internet has been an integral part of our life. Development of telecommunications was happened far before the development of internet, but internet has helped in bringing the one form of telecommunications into several forms. The growth of telecommunications and its popularity has lot to do with internet. Internet made the telecommunication process much easier and faster. Since it connects a system with another system, Network is also a

form of internet, we call it intranets. Internet was developed during 90s and that is the period since when information technology has been getting developed in a faster speed.

Internet has been the facilitator for the performance and development as well as accuracy, growth and popularity of telecommunications, networking and information technologies so I think its worthy to say that because of internet, development of telecommunications, networks and other information technologies has taken the speed.

2)      How is the trend toward open systems, connectivity, and interoperability related to business use of internet, intranets and extranets?

The information systems that use the common standards for hardware, software, applications and networking are known as open systems. Connectivity facilitates a computing system to share its data and resources with other. Whereas interoperability is open system which enables many different applications of end users is accomplished using the different varieties of computer systems, software packages, and database provided by variety of interconnected networks.

Internet, intranets and extranets are all the forms of open systems that have ensured the smooth functioning of business organizations making them more productive and efficient. Open systems, connectivity and interoperability are the boarder forms which are proved to ensure the growth and profitability of business organizations.

3)      Refer to the real world Case on Metric & Multistandard Components Corp in the chapter. Pick a small business you would like to start. How would you handle the telecommunication needs of your company at the beginning? After your business had grown substantially a few years later? Explain the reason for your choices.

Suppose I would like to start a travel agency, to run a travel agency I would need very strong telecommunication system that would support the business and lead it towards growth. While deploying telecommunication in my business I would consider cost and efficiency at first. Time saving would be the secondary factor. Since I would be having limited budget and my business would be limited, I would search out something that best fits my need in minimum possible cost. I would also see the upgradability of the system so that as my business grows up, instead of replacing the whole system with new one I would be able to upgrade my system as well.

After my business will grow substantially over years, and I would be having greater workload, I would go for the telecommunication that would help me save time and increase the effectiveness of my activities in order to increase the level of customer satisfaction and productivity of my business. Reliability, speed and accuracy as well as ease of use would be my concern then.

4)      How will wireless information appliances and services affect the business use of internet and the Web? Explain.

Business use of internet and the web could be much popular and important for business organizations since it facilitates the effective and efficient information transfer and allocation. Wireless services make whole the business environment much systematic and well managed. Easy access and availability of internet enhances the productivity of the business which makes it more popular among business organizations. Wireless information appliances and services will make the whole process of using internet and Web much easier, it would also make it less costly and smooth so that business organizations can implement it and take the best out of it.

Sharing will be much easier with wireless services and appliances so that business organization benefits the enhanced operation and accurate results, along with better costumer relationships resulting overall growth of organizations with the reliance internet and web browsing.

5)      What are some of the business benefits and management challenges of client/server networks? Network computing? Peer to peer networks?

6)      What is the business value driving so many companies to install and extend intranets rapidly through out their organizations?

Today every kind of organizations is implementing a broad range of intranet uses. They are following the trend so that they could group their operations, conceptually into a few user services categories that reflect the basic services those intranets offers to help its users. Business organization can get several benefits by deploying intranets in their organizations. Some of them are listed below:

·         Communication and collaboration: Use of intranets ensures the improved communications and collaboration within an organization.

·         Web Publishing: Intranet makes it possible to develop and publish hyperlinked multimedia documents to hypermedia databases which are accessible in World Wide Web servers.

·         Smooth functioning of business operations and effective management due to sharing of information resources.

7)      What strategic competitive benefits do you see in company’s use of extranets?

Following are the strategic competitive benefit that organization derives by using Extranets in their organization:

·         Product Development: By using extranet they can find out what they can give and what customer wants so that they could synchronize the both terms and develop products that will leverages both conditions. New product development ideas also can be attained through discussions over organizations extranet.

·         Cost savings: Having a clear picture about each and every aspect of organization makes organization more managed and systematic with fewer chances of error and enhanced accuracy resulting the cost savings.

·         Marketing: Extranet makes the process of marketing much easier and well managed.

·         Distribution: Distribution channels become clear and well informed so that over stock and lack of products in the market becomes less.

·         Leveraging the partnership: Organization is not just about those who are actively working inside the organizational boundary but is about those as well who are directly or indirectly related with organization. So use of extranet brings everybody together making all of them equally responsible and accountable towards organization.

8)      Refer to the Real world case on Starbucks and Others on the future of free, Public WI-Fi. New startups are offering in exchange for serving advertising while browsing the web. What do you think about this business model? Would you expect to see any competition between these companies, say, two different providers covering the same airport, or rather some degree o exclusivity?

As long as people find that there is something to look after regarding the offering of organizations,  I think such business models does no harm, ultimately people are the one who are benefiting form them. The greatest challenge for such organizations is to make people feel awarded or benefited. People should find it worth participating and using, they shouldn’t feel pressured to see what they want to show, so that business model becomes effective.

If the organizations could manage the whole procedure and make it more catchy, customer oriented and interesting I think this business model will work well. And if it worked good definitely new people will enter and there will be competitions between those companies offering different kinds of schemes with different colors and shapes.

9)      Do you think that business use of internet, intranets and extranets has changed what business people expect from information technology in their jobs? Explain.

The more we know, more we know that there is lot more to know. I think same happens with business people using internet and other open systems in their business. When people discovered telephone that was all they could think of before inventing that but now from telephone to computers to laptops to palmtops there is lot more to look after and much more coming up very soon. A few years later in Nepal, typewriter was the only thing used as information technology in business. Business people could only think about typing a letter by using IT but now from database management to every simple business activity people use computer. With development of internet people come to find out about inventions and uses as soon as the invention is declared by the inventor so with this rapid sharing of information’s and news via internet, extranet and intranet business people expect more from information technology in their jobs.

10)  The insatiable demand for everything wireless, video, and web enabled everywhere will be the driving force behind development in telecommunications, networking and computing technologies for the foreseeable future. Do you agree or disagree? Why?

Development leads towards further development. Wireless networking and technologies are making so many impossible, possible. It has made the concept of communication and networking much broader and opened the several facets to each of it. New concepts are emerging regarding this. So I agree with the above statement and I am kind of completely sure that this is going to bring revolution in the field of communications and sharing.
